Lottery Update
The lottery has now been running for a few months so we thought it would be great to update you on how we will be spending some of the money to improve Kirkcaldy, and how we plan to administer these projects going forward.
Projects 1-3
As you may know, cosmetic improvements in the High Street are in progress, the purpose obviously being to make the place look better, but also as catalyst to unlock additional private and public money that will lead to new investments rather than further decline.
Permissions, match funding and weather have all slowed the roll-out of the first projects, but the new artworks are now with the printers, and we are waiting on the weather to be kind and allow us to apply the designs to the first two shop fronts; the former New Look and also the former Debenhams shop units. The great news is that these projects would not have happened without the Kirkcaldy Lottery, but the lottery is only funding a fraction of the total cost of the first two projects and so the money is rolling over to project number three. This is not finalised, but we hope to start on a mural on the former BHS store soon. Again, with sponsorship and other support we hope to roll-over money from this project to the next one and so on, so the impact on the High Street this year should be a significant improvement. All of these projects are being delivered using local artists.
The Lottery Community and future projects
What about other projects and beyond the High Street? We are actively looking at other community projects and suggestions that will have a positive impact on the whole area. We have received several project suggestions, and we welcome more – you can submit these online at https://www.adamsmithglobalfoundation.com/lottery . Unlike many other lotteries we have no paid staff, and with community projects to assess, select and deliver we need the help of the Kirkcaldy community. We do have a handful of volunteers, but we need more so we are inviting anyone that might be able to help to an open meeting on Wednesday 16.30-18.00 at the Adam Smith Heritage Centre, 1 Adam Smith Close, Kirkcaldy. If you cannot make it, just use the form to tell us about any ideas and how you might be able to help.
Lottery Winners
We are now approached 1000 Kirkcaldy Lottery winners! Some have won cash prizes, others Super Draw prizes, and many have won extra tickets. We are still waiting on someone scooping the £25,000 jackpot but it is only a matter of time (and luck). Your odds on winning the jackpot are almost twice as likely as winning the same prize on the Scotto lottery (according to published data), and guess what? The Scotto donates only 20% to good causes – whereas the Kirkcaldy Lottery gives over 50% of all proceeds to projects in Kirkcaldy! So, the real winners of the Kirkcaldy Lottery are the people of Kirkcaldy, not just the prize winners.
Thanks for being part of The Kirkcaldy Lottery!
